Basketball SA has nominated 2 teams (20 players) to contest both the Under 20 Women's and Under 20 Men's grades at the 2021 Under 20 Australian Junior Championship. The first team (SA Red) will comprise of the 10 players which make up the best possible team to compete in the AJC. The development team (SA Blue) will be selected to still be competitive at the AJC level, but also having a longer team player development focus. In the event that one of the following occurs, Basketball SA will send only one team (10 players) in the appropriate grade:
A. Nomination for the 2nd team is not accepted by Basketball Australia;
B. There are insufficient numbers of players to warrant a development team;
C. There is an insufficient level of players for the development team to be competitive at AJC level.
Players eligible for SA Country, and players born in 2003 and who were selected in Under 18 State teams (Metro and Country) in 2020 are encouraged to trial for Under 20 SPP. Country players who do not live easy driving distance from Adelaide may be able to negotiate special training arrangements to enable them to participate.
Please note that there may be increased costs in 2021 due to COVID and the possibility of an increase of one day due to more team nominations. Also due to the increased likelihood of cancellation due to COVID, the cost of court hire for the preparation will be billed as a separate non-refundable levy. More detail can be found in Terms and Conditions upon Checkout.
Basketball SA and SA Country Basketball are planning on holding development tournaments in Adelaide at a similar time to the cancelled events interstate. The status of interstate events and possible replacement events will be communicated to all players and parents as information comes to hand, as well as via social media.
Basketball SA acknowledges that while participation at development tournaments such as the Adelaide Invitation Challenge (or East Coast Challenge or Southern Cross Challenge) is desirable for player development, if a player is unable to participate in these events, due to financial or other reasons, then the player’s selection will be based upon their performances in all other aspects of the selection process.
Please note that there may be increased costs in 2021 due to COVID and the possibility of an increase of one day due to more team nominations. Also due to the increased likelihood of cancellation due to COVID, the cost of court hire for the preparation will be billed as a separate non-refundable levy. If you do not own either of these please wear a light/dark reversible singlet rather than your club or association uniform. Please bring a named basketball (and look after it) and any water or food that you may need.
Please note due to current social distancing measures and the large numbers of players that normally trial for these teams, parents and spectators will not be allowed in any trialling venue. We ask that parents wait outside, maintain social distancing and do not congregate close together outside of venues or in hallways or foyers of venues.
Players who are not financial with either Basketball SA or SA Country (Under 20 SPP) will not be eligible for selection. If you have any outstanding money please contact Basketball SA or SA Country to arrange payment before trialling.
To register please go to: OwnUrGoal app - SA High Performance Program Trials and complete the registration process. Players, coaches (and parents) will then be able to access all information and communicate via the OwnUrGoal app while they are trialling for or are in the High Performance Program.
