AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

Development Aim
Having selected players aged between 14-17 years to an NITCP Squad, the aim then is to develop their mental skills, individual skills and team concepts to enable them to compete successfully at national and international level. Selection to an NITCP Squad is for a 12-month period, and positions are reviewed at the end of each year.

Therefore key supplementary aims of the program are to have athletes selected to receive scholarships to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra and to have players selected to National Junior Squads and Teams. 

Program Objectives
To identify outstanding junior female and male basketball athletes throughout Australia from 14 -17 years of age. 

  1. To develop, educate and improve these basketball athletes in the following areas: 

    1.1   Individual skill acquisition for basketball.
    1.2  
    Team concepts and principles of play for basketball.

    1.3   Strength, agility and conditioning for basketball.
    1.4   Nutrition for basketball.
    1.5   Psychology for basketball.
    1.6   Injury prevention and management.
    1.7   Drugs in Sport education.

  2. To identify a network of coaches throughout Australia to work with and deliver the NITCP to identified athletes.

  3. To improve, develop and advance these coaches, particularly their expertise in delivering technically applied coaching competencies.
