Basketball SA Senior Panel of Referees
Basketball SA Panels 1, 2 and 3 consist of referees who have been selected as suitable to referee at the states highest level competitions. These referees form the squad from which officials are appointed to officiate in the Central ABL competition.
Panel Referees are required to pass a written and fitness test each year and make themselves available for various grades of competition on a weekly/monthly basis.
Panel referees are allocated to differing panel levels based on their experience, performance and commitment. Included in this group is the top level of officials who participate in the National Competitions of NBL and WNBL.

Panel Selection
Selection to Panel is decided by the Referee Appointments Committee, on completion of the Panel Application Form. Panel structure consists of Panel 3, Panel 2 and Panel 1. The refereeing pathway to Panel 3 is a process which involves completition or working towards Level 2 referee accreditation.
You may be selected to the State Referee Development Program (SRDP) or the National Referee Development Program (NRDP), although being selected on either of these programs does not give you automatic panel status. Information for both these programs can be found on the Basketball SA website under 
referee development programs in the officials menu.
It is preferable that you are refereeing in SA District Competition, Friday Juniors, Youth League and Divisions 2-5 Senior, or the equivalent. Referees are entitled to apply for Panel 1, 2 or 3 at any time. The application will then be addressed at the next Referee Appointments Committee meeting. Movements within Panel 3 through to Panel 1 are decided by the Referee Appointments Committee,
