Upcoming Referee Courses
Beginner Referee Course - Level "0"
This course is the entry level for all new referees. It contains the basic rules, game administration and mechanics
needed by beginner referees. The course consists of about 4 hours of theory and a short quiz. Participants then
spend time during the following weeks in various grades of competition completing the on-court section.

Level 1C, 1B, 1A Referee Course
After successful completion of the Level 0 course and satisfactory on court display over about 6 months
the next step in your development is the Level 1C, 1B or 1A course. The Level 1C is available through
local associations (and stadiums) but the Level 1B and 1A are currently run annually during the State
Referee Development Camp over the last weekend of the October school holidays. Each course will take
approximately 5 - 10 hours to complete. Referees must complete a theory exam and be assessed on court
as meeting the competencies outlined by Basketball Australia. Generally, it takes about 12 months to
complete the on-court requirements of each course.

Level 2 Referee Course
To advance through to Level 2, referees are generally now on an elite pathway and involved in a developmentsquad or a similar program. Referees need to complete the more advanced Level 2 Course again taking10 - 12 hours. This course is only available through the State Development Camp during the Octoberschool holiday. Referees must complete the National Referee Exam and be assessed on-court as meetingthe competencies outlined by Basketball Australia. Level 2 referees should expect to be refereeing at highjunior representative or senior level. A Level 2 referee may be considered for selection to a National Junior Championship.
Level 3 Referee CourseThe highest level of State Accreditation is Level 3 and referees at this level will be regularly officiating atState level competitions. The Level 3 course is conducted every 2 years and is held during the OctoberState Referee Development Camp over the last weekend of the school holidays. The referee is requiredto have completed not only many hours of accreditation training but been involved with or completed anumber of years in a State or National referee development squad. Officials will work their on-courtassessment during South Australian ABL season.To register for the next Level 3 Course - Date to be decided but next course is at Development camp 2013
