Basketball SA provides numerous training and accreditation courses for referees across the state. All courses follow the Basketball Australia accreditation program and curriculum.
There are four levels of accreditation offered by Basketball SA at a State Level ranging from Level 0 to Level 3. At each level, the referee is required to undergo some theoretical or practical training concluding with an on court assessment of their competencies at the various level. The starting point for referee accreditation is the Level 0 course and accreditation. This basic introduction to refereeing introduces new referees to some of the rules of basketball, their role as a referee and some of the basic mechanics and signals they will need to learn. The course takes around three hours to complete.
The cost of the Level 0 course is $30 which includes a referee shirt, whistle and basic rules publication.
