At the completion of the Under 19 Australian Camp held over a week ago Joel Spear from West Adelaide was named in the team to compete at the Albert Schweitzer Tournament being held in Mannheim, Germany in April. It will be the second time that Joel has been to Mannheim as he played three games there against U19 club teams when he toured with the SASI squad late last year.
Joel’s selection comes on the back of good performances at previous national camps and a very consistent week as our point guard at the recent Under 20 Nationals.
Several days ago Sam Johns from Southern Tigers was selected in the Australian Under 17 team to tour China in May as part of the lead up to the 2012 Under 17 World Championships.
Originally an inside player, Sam has worked hard to improve his perimeter skills and whilst he still retains great ability to penetrate and play with power he is now also a very good perimeter scorer as well. He was also a leading performer on the SASI tour last year and without doubt the experience gained on that tour has assisted in his selection nationally.
Congratulations to Joel and Sam on their selections.
