For head coach positions, previous experience with a state team is desirable, but not essential, has Division 1 or equivalent coaching experience.
For assistant coach positions, we are aiming to strengthen our pool of developing state coaches and would like to see more applications from across all clubs and/or associations. We will be making a concerted effort to incorporate development and succession planning for all of our state coaches and we believe that this is a valuable pathway for any aspiring coach to enter.
As a guideline it is expected that most successful applicants for the coaching positions would be currently coaching in the equivalent of a division 1 team in the district competition and have had experience in the age level being applied for.
For team manager positions, previous experience of managing teams at club level is desirable, especially those that have participated in interstate tournaments. State team managers play an important part in the state team process, both during the months of preparation and during the national championships and we are seeking new applicants for this rewarding position.
The Ivor Burge is the national tournament for inclusive basketball athletes and it is a very fulfilling and rewarding experience for the coaches and team managers that get involved. The IB program is a great pathway option for a coach that provides an opportunity to coach a state team at a national championship.
Applicants for all positions must include:
a) details of relevant experience, including current appointments
b) indication of preferences where application is for more than one team
c) any other relevant qualifications (eg coaching accreditation, tertiary
qualifications, first aid, trainer certification, etc.)
Head coach applications must provide additional information:
a) proposed training schedule
b) comments on overall strengths/weaknesses of relevant age group(s)
c) proposed offensive and defensive structures for the team
In addition, all applicants must have completed the coach registration process, which includes a national police check, Play by the Rules online training and a signed Code of Ethics. Further, successful applicants for head coach positions will be required to sign a form acknowledging the State Coach Code of Conduct.
