Basketball SA is pleased to announce the following appointments:

The decision to divide responsibility for the junior district competition between three commissioners has been taken to provide a better level of service to participants and referees, and to provide more individual attention to referees across all stadiums.

Referee Commissioners have the following responsibilities:

  • Selecting and rostering appropriate referees based on performance, accreditation level, and availability
  • Rostering and oversight of referee coaches
  • Liaising with the Competitions Manager and referees in following up on complaints and queries regarding referees
  • Working with the Officiating Manager to ensure that development squad numbers and performance meet the required standard
  • Taking a position on the Referee Appointments Committee, whose role includes the appointment of referees to national championships, panels and other positions

Referees in these competitions will continue to notify their availability online and communicate changes in their availability to the Referee Administration Officer, Heidi Verheyen. Any other issues regarding refereeing in the district competition should continue to be communicated to the Competitions Manager, Paul Arnott, and for issues raised by club members, this communication should be via a club secretary.

All referee commissioners have a high level experience as referees, and also bring their development and rostering experience to the competition. Basketball SA congratulates them on their appointment, and thanks them for volunteering their time to assist with the development of refereeing in South Australia.
