Last night at the Arkaba Hotel, we officially launched the 2018 Premier League Season.

Club Presidents, coaches, players, referees and media personnel gathered at the Arkaba Hotel on Wednesday evening, March 7, to officially launch the 2018 Premier League Season. Basketball SA CEO Phil Sinnott was in attendance to give the opening launch speech, making note of the very successful 2017 season. Last year, the Premier League competition enjoyed a high-quality and tightly contested on court season, as well as enhanced media coverage and reach, resulting in a record-breaking attendance at the Grand Finals which saw Southern Tigers take out the Women’s Championship, and the West Adelaide Bearcats broke their 21-year Championship drought.

The District Competition sees approximately 700 volunteers at a grass roots level, 5, 518 District players on athlete pathway to Premier League, and 150 district referees, with 43 on the Premier League Panel and 18 Score Bench Chairpersons. The Premier League is the elite competition in South Australia, and the highest point of the local Basketball SA pathway. Each year we are able to welcome exciting import players, cheer loudly as our favourite players return, and support the young and upcoming ballers as they come up through the ranks within their club.

This season the Forestville Eagles will share home court at Wayville Sports Centre with the Woodville Warriors, who are awaiting their six brand new courts as part of St Clair’s redevelopment. Furthermore, North Adelaide could potentially spend their last season at the Hillcrest Basketball Stadium as they will prepare to move the new five court venue at Lightsview.

Port Adelaide Recreation Centre, Marion Basketball Stadium, and Morphett Vale Basketball Stadium will also all undertake floor or roof upgrades over the next 12 months.

The 2018 Premier League season is set to be bigger and better than what we saw last year. Don’t miss out on all of the ins and outs of the league, along with weekly news, recaps, and results on our Premier League Facebook Page.

The competition is set to tip-off at venues across Adelaide on March 17. The Women get started at 6:30pm and the Men follow at 8:15pm. To view the fixture ahead of the 2018 season, please click here.

Thank you to Kelly (AllStar Photos) and Allan Browne (Adelaide 36ers Game Announcer) for their contributions to the successful event.
