Basketball SA Commission Member and Basketball Officials SA’s respected Rules Interpreter, Referee Coach and Score Table Commissioner, Trevor Baker, has his bags packed and a boarding pass to India in his hands.
Trevor Baker has been appointed as a Technical Commissioner for the 2017 FIBA Under-16 Women’s Asian Championship to be held October 22 to 28.
The Championship will be held in Bangaluru, India, in the same stadium that hosted the Opals during their FIBA Women’s Asia Cup campaign earlier this year.
Also heading to the event is current World Champions, the Sapphires, the Australian Under-16 Women’s representative team and SA’s own, Kelsey Rees. The Sapphires will see a tough contest amongst their Division A competitors: China; Japan; South Korea; Chinese Taipei; Hong Kong; Thailand; Australia; and New Zealand.
As Technical Commissioner, Trevor will play a huge role in ensuring that all games are run smoothly, by providing support and overseeing all scoretable and statistician officials. Trevor will be assigned to Division B games, due to the need for neutrality across the competition, and therefore will oversee the technical officiating on games between countries including the host country, India.
The top 4 teams of the 2017 FIBA Under-16 Women’s Asian Championship will qualify for next year’s Under-17 World Championships. Trevor’s appointment to this important international basketball event is a reflection on his extensive experience and involvement in basketball officiating here in SA, and we wish to congratulate him on all of his efforts and this great honour.
Basketball SA would like to wish Trevor, and Kelsey, the best of luck next week as they represent our state at the Championships.
