In conjunction with the Red Cross, Basketball SA is launching the Basketball Blood Challenge, an initiative that will hopefully see the entire basketball community get behind.
Australia needs over 25,000 donations each week to keep up with patient demand and blood donation helps cancer patients, people undergoing surgery, pregnant women and babies.
Basketball SA clubs and associations have been registered as a division under Basketball SA in the Red25 program, a unique group giving program by the Australian Red Cross Blood Service and we’re encouraging everyone to get behind the cause.
Basketball SA CEO, Mark Hubbard said he’s excited to be launching the basketball blood challenge today.
“We have 30,000 members in the South Australian basketball community and we would really love to see everyone get behind this fantastic initiative,” Mark said.
“We’re extremely proud to be driving this initiative within our clubs and to our members.”
Donating blood is free, it only takes about 1 hour and you’ll feel great because you’re saving lives: 1 donation can save 3 lives. To find your nearest blood donor centre, click here.
If we unite ourselves and work together, we can make a significant difference for the lives of patients across Australia.
The Basketball Blood Challenge will run from 4 July - 4 December 2016. Share your photos with us using #basketballbloodchallenge
How to get involved:
1. Check Your Eligibility – Find out if you’re eligible to donate by taking the short eligibility quiz
2. Make an appointment – call 13 14 95, or make an appointment online.
3. Sign up for Red25 – If you’re a new or an existing donor and want your donations to count even more, sign up to our Red25 group by completing the form at the donor centre or you can sign up online. Donors sign up to the group once, and your group’s tally will then automatically include your donations.
If you are unable to donate at this time, encouraging others to give blood is also invaluable. You can find more information on other ways to help here.
