We want to keep featuring the progress of new and developing infrastructure projects for basketball across the state every month; and for September we want to highlight the exciting Lightsview Indoor Recreation Centre.
The Lightsview project has stemmed from years of discussion, lobbying, planning and collaboration to address the desperate need to replace Hillcrest Stadium, address needs for Disability Sport & Recreation, and Council’s desire to provide a facility to cater for the growing demands of community and sporting groups.
In recent years the support from the City of Port Adelaide Enfield’s CEO, Mayor, Councillors and staff has been exceptional, as has been the support from local State MP, Dana Wortley. The collaborative work from many has resulted in an impressive facility that will provide a vastly different new home for North Adelaide Basketball Club and a great venue for the broader basketball community.
The external design elements create a “wow factor” that will create a real presence for the site on Hampstead Road; and the internal design caters for the highest levels of basketball; with large FIBA court spaces, show court seating, multi-function rooms for meetings and events, offices and commercial spaces. The facility will provide a great experience for local, state and national level events and competitions.
The last details of the project are currently being finalised by the team at the City of Port Adelaide Enfield with ongoing consultation with Basketball SA and the North Adelaide Rockets.
At this stage the project is tentatively scheduled to commence as early as November 2017 with car park works and then building constructions in early 2018, leading to a tentative opening of the new facility around mid-2019.
